Fujitsu makes a very good, sturdy laptop that doesn’t feel like it will break if you cough too hard. You know which laptops we’re talking about. The FUJITSU LIFEBOOK TH700 features an elegant and modern look. Plus, this is a fully loaded tablet PC with pretty much everything needed to get work done, without any software or hardware limitations.
Like all other tablet PCs, when the unit is closed, it looks like a standard laptop. Open the screen, type away on the keyboard and so on. However, its convertible design allows the screen to swivel (in both directions) and become a touchscreen tablet.
The 12.1” LED screen is bright and based on WXGA technology, with a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 (16 x 10 aspect ratio). WXGA technology, which stands for Wide eXtended Graphics Array, is technology commonly used in LCD and LED monitors.
The dimensions are 11.69 inches wide, 9.17 inches deep and 1.51 inches tall when the screen is closed. It’s a little thick compared to similar units. The system weighs 4.2 pounds but can weigh more if other features are added. It shouldn’t put too much strain on you to carry the TH700 around in a backpack or briefcase during the day.
Technical Specifications:
The processor is an Intel Core i3-350M running 2.26GHz (3MB L3 cache), part of Intel’s newer line of processors that are fast and power efficient and include Core i3, i5 and i7. Though the i3 may not be as powerful as the Core i5 or i7 processors, the TH700 packs more processing punch than other tablet PCs on our list. This unit is built for fast computing. Intel HD Graphics are built in, giving the display a wide array of colors, crisp images and impressive graphics.
The TH700 comes with a large 320GB S-ATA 5400 rpm hard drive, which will hold more than enough documents, photos, music, videos and more. Also included is 4GB of DDR3 1066 MHz SDRAM memory (RAM), giving it a good edge in speed, especially when dealing with the included Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) operating system.
The two popular modern operating systems, Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) require a hefty amount of RAM, 2GB for the 64-bit Windows 7 (1GB for the 32-bit version) and 1GB for Snow Leopard. These are minimum requirements, so it’s great to see 4GB of RAM included with the TH700.
Input/Output ports include a gigabit Ethernet/LAN, USB, Firewire/iLink IEEE 1394, VGA, HDMI (which can be plugged into an HDTV), a PC ExpressCard slot, a memory card reader and an audio port.
Other features include a built-in Atheros XSPAN 802.11 B/G/N wireless adapter (“N” is the latest and greatest Wi-Fi technology), Bluetooth 2.1, a fingerprint sensor for extra security, a dual-layer DVD burner, a built-in microphone and a webcam, which is great for video chat and teleconferencing.
The battery is a Lithium ion and can last up to five hours, which is about average when compared to other tablet PCs on our list. There is an additional modular bay for a second battery, though a second hard drive could easily fit in there.
